The numbers game

Day six ultrasound this morning showed I have seven follies. Nada mas. I was hoping the new drugs would rustle up a few more this time around. I had seven last time; four had eggs. They injected three but only one fertilised.

Doc said seven follies is very good for my age (39), which I guess is something. But really IVF is a numbers game and we’d all feel happier having as many follies as possible when we spin that $6000 roulette.

More follies means more chance of more eggs. More eggs more chance of more fertilised eggs. More fertilised eggs more chance of viable embryos. And so on.
